This book sounds really interesting! I recently took a class on Maps and Fiction and we talked a bit about location and travel in Mansfield Park.
I’ve read this Kelly – terrific book! – thanks for the giveaway – I’ll post it on the JASNA-Vermont facebook page so people can enter – you don’t need to put my name in the hat!
this looks awesome
I have the book on Jane Austen and Marriage and will be interested to see what is in this book/. Many of the earlier letters detail journeys. We read about her waiting until it was convenient for someone to tarvel to make a trip. Once her writing table went off on another leg of the journey without her– see losing luggage is not totally 20th century.
Looks like a great blog to follow and free books are fabulous!
I would love to win this book. Sounds fabulous. Thanks for the opportunity!
Hi, Julie, Julie, “N”, Jo Ann, Deb & Aubrey – Sounds like the book will go to a “good home” just from your responses! This is an “extra” for me, so it’s not like I’m getting rid of a bad book!
Thanks for taking the time to post a comment – and good luck (except Deb!)

Excellent book – great for Austen armchair travelers!

It must be a very interesting book, please enter me.
I have this book on my Wish List and so if I am not fortunate, I will end up with this book. It sounds intriguing. I often wonder what travelling was like in different eras and cultures.
i must read this, please!!!
thank you for the giveaway!!
Perfect timing for #AusteninAugust! I am keen to learn more as I can’t imagine the discomfort of long journeys and breaking them at less than satisfactory inns and stops along the way. Lovely giveaway – ty for offering!
I’ve pinned it to the BOOK’D board
Welcome to Lady Susan, Pamela, Tgruy, Deborah, Cyn & Sharon – not forgetting Laurel Ann (I assume, like Deb, you’ve got this book – but let me know if I’m wrong).
Hadn’t thought about Austen in August! You’re right (for I joined in on that last year @ Bookrat). Good point to bring up.

That would be a special book to add to my collection. Thank you for the giveaway. I hope it’s next appropriate to send another thank-you for the prize I’ve won. 🙂
I just love any kind of books on Jane Austen or her books!!!
Hi, Betty & Desiree – you’re on my list! thanks for having the interest in it. k
I love finding new books to read about Jane Austen, I’m so glad people are still writing about that time period. While travel was an important part of her stories, not much detail was given about it, so this would be a wonderful way to have that insight provided for us. Thank you for this offer!
I have never been an avid reader by any means, but I have had a passion for Pride & Prejudice since the early 80’s & am teased by my family for watching the movie 3 or 4 times a year. This led me to seek out more about the author & in time have discovered: The Jane Austin Book Club? (not sure of name of movie & have watched many of the titles listed in the book), Becoming Jane & others. I also really enjoy the BBC & PBS & Masterpiece Theatre, so I’m really just a “Babe” regarding all of the passions entwined in Jane Austin & writers similar to her style. I appreciate the opportunity of attaining any book regarding her. Thank you.

Hi, Jackie & Robin – there is certainly a LOT out there on the period; I’ve a lengthy bibliography (which I must update with more titles) on my Two Teens in the Time of Austen blog which may interest you: https://smithandgosling.wordpress.com/smithgosling-the-books/bibliography/
Thanks for sharing about your love of Austen’s stories!

Ooooh…this was on my Austen wishlist. My question is: decent footnotes?
Hi, Hope – let me grab the book to refresh my memory (I’ve got it in an envelope, ready to ship out).
Unlike Le Faye’s recent book (GREAT presentation – but, gosh! tell me where you got your information!!), there is a fairly lengthy endnotes section, pp. 242-260 (inclusive). This is followed by a five-page biblilography, and an index which (while not exhaustive) is more than adequate.
The notes themselves, while not (like some texts) detailed, with additional asides, does cite and does allow for following-up, should one wish, with the original text.

Jane Austen is such a fascinating individual. I can only imagine her life experiences helped shape her stories. I would love the opportunity to read more of this book.
Hi Dung – you’re on my little list! Thanks for writing. k

Jane Austen the greatest Novelist ever!!!
Hi, Carmen – I think you will find yourself in good company, echoing that sentiment. k
I LOVE this community – so much sharing and free stuff. My only sorrow is that I can’t seem to find time to read all the good books that are recommended but I keep plugging away. This will go on my Wish List also and hope that I may win it but if not, then I will at some time purchase it.
Hi, Sheila – I share you “no time to read”; though when one DOES manage to sit, curled up, and immersed in a REALLY GOOD book… there’s just nothing better.
Thanks for joining in!

It looks absolutely wonderful. Thanks for the recommendation.
Thanks for writing, Daria; you’re on my list!
